Don’t get me wrong, I don’t expect any of this to happen I just want what I think is best for the league. If everyone disagrees with me, fine. I just want to see this league get better because in my opinion, it’s quite clearly the best on the internet at the moment.
RP System Reform
As many of you know, I hate reward points or any system that allows you to increase the skill of any partricular player at any particular time. I must admit however, that the BBS rewards system has worn on me, although I'd like to see it changed. I think its to powerful.
So basically, I'd like to limit the effectiveness of camps/intensive training and make them a lot harder to get. I mean, Detroit have a full time article write who is absolutely tearing the ass out of the whole system. I'm not saying that his articles aren't any good because a lot of the time they are, however he is just cranking up the reward points for his team. Also, I hate that shit articles receive more recognition than an article that requires research, initiative and actual BBS intelligence to write.
In my ideal system, you would complete the following to attain reward points.
Articles
The range of points for an article would be from 1-50. A 50 point article would have to be really, really special. It would have to be in-depth, critical, analytical and truly amazing. So getting 50 points would be near impossible unless a GM was bored for a couple of hours. I think a 1-29 power ranking’s article with a decent sized review on each team would be around 30-40 points, a team review (as many GM's do at the end of each season or at the beginning) would only warrant 10-15 points. With the current system, I think it would be up to the article grader to determine what deserves what.
Signatures
They are so easy to make, and I personally don't like them so I think a point scale of 1-10 is fair. I'd much prefer to read a team review or a league wide article than look at a signature that only slows the boards down.
Winning
I think teams should be rewarded for winning much like they are in the NBA. Not so much, however I think 20 points should be given for having the best record in your division, an additional 10 if it's in your conference. Furthermore, I think the team that wins the championship should be really rewarded with a maximum 50 points.
So like the current system, 100 reward points will result in a GM being able to put a player of his choice through an intensive work out that can modify the skill set of any given player in numerous categories. I obviously can't argue with what categories can be upgraded however I think the 'no additions to players with 85 or over' should be abolished. Good players improve too.
In terms of restrictions, I think a GM should only get to utilise 2 reward camps per season (all of this still happens in between FA and TC). They can use it on any player under the age of 30. A player can only undergo 3 intensive training camps before they become ineligible to receive another one. Furthermore, you can only upgrade a category once. For example, I can't go and upgrade Kobe Bryants outside shot twice.
Private Workouts
I also think with reward points you should be able to buy time with a player before the draft. So for 100 reward points, you get a 1 hour session with a player and privately work them out. You can work out any player you please as long as it is in reason (for example, Chicago couldn't work out Greg Oden because there would be no point, unless they revealed that they had a lot of interest in getting the number 1 pick via trade).
Detailing the above, I think a private work out would involve revealing 3 key categories in a players game (except potential) in numerical format. So a GM could find out a players exact offensive rebounding number, exact handles number or exact outside shot number. Maybe this is a bit to powerful? Maybe a GM gets to know their numerical number within a 10 point range? So if Oden has a 70 on inside scoring, he would be told that its in between say 61-71, or 70-80 etc...
RP's = Cash?
Also, I’d like to toy with the idea that something like 500 reward points can chop 1 year off a players salary? As in RP’s are like money and a team can buy out a year of a players contract instead of teams just being able to make a cut easily like we can now. Also, RP’s could be more widely traded as cash. Poorer teams could develop serviceable backups to good teams who want to make a play off push for cash in order to ease their financial situation.
Expansion Team
I'd love to see this league open up a team and create a new one. I did this in my league which I co-commished a fair while ago, UBL. What would happen is that we would get the franchise in the most economic trouble and dismantle them.
All of their players would be put into FA. Every team in the BBS would select 7 players to protect. The rest would enter a player pool which the new team would select out of.
The new team would have to select at least $30mil in contracts. They would also recieve the 4th pick in the upcoming draft. I feel as if this will eliminate a team that has no chance at anything for the next 3-5 years (theres around 3 teams in this league who could be wiped) and creates a new extract of realism to the league. Enter the Charlotte Bobcats...
