I did an Eastern Conference analysis, now its the West's turn. Currently, it's the Houston Rockets holding the top spot in the conference, but there is a lot of time for things to change.
Houston Rockets: Tyson Chandler continues to put up great defensive and offensive numbers, maybe the offense over 13 ppg we didn't expect from him, but 3+ blks and 1+ stls are always a given. Even though they lost the talented Odom, Antawn Jamison has cut the slack thusfar, shootin .468% from the field and averaging nearly 20 ppg along with 8 brds a night. The ageless it seems, Danny Fortson, continues to dominate the league with his staggering amount of double doubles on a yearly basis, and putting up 25 and 12 on the season isn't too bad either. Boykins has held the fort down nicely. One issue with this team could be the lack of scoring from the point guard position and scoring at the 2 which is only averaging 11 ppg a night.
Golden State Warriors: This team has made a bunch of big time trades and finds it self competing for the top seed. GM James, currently on vacation had done a nice job with this team. When you have Kobe caring and playing like Kobe, along with VC playing like well, VC talentwise you definitely have a chance to compete for a title each year. Baron Davis is putting up outstanding numbers at the 1 as well, MVP numbers possibly? The weak point of this team is bigs, and unfortunately you can usually not win a title without a legit big time scoring inside presence.
San Antonio Spurs: If you just look at this team on paper, its a championship capable team with an SL of Billups, SG (Unknown ha), Marion, Rahim and Okur. This team has the defensive depth in players like Okur and Marion to be great competitors all season. In addition the bench is solid with guys like West and Frye a young developing talent. However Billups is underperforming right now, not scoring like he used to, and they may need their leader Billups to play much better to lead them to the promiseland.
Portland Trailblazers: GM Dan Basone is ecstatic with the #4 seed in the West. Last year, this #8 seed made a great run come playoff time, establishing themselves as a contender. This continues this season. With solid inside threats from Mihm and Dampier on both the offense and defense they look good. Luol Deng just looks like one of the best picks Dan could have made. Stephon Marbury is putting up staggering numbers on a daily basis and J Rich is a scoring machine. An issue for this team like several others in the league could be the lack of bench depth. If they can avoid injuries you will definitely hear them making a splash this season.
This concludes the West analysis. Great season so far guys and keep up the good work.
