This is Chad Ford giving you my insight on this years draft class.
The 2002 draft class is stacked, specially with PF here and there... thus i'd like to categorize this as a PF draft... Here is what i think might happen.
#1 Suns - Carmelo Anthony : a potential 30ppg player would get the honor of being selected #1 in this draft, his offensive prowess is amazing and his game is only bound to improve. Suns would have other teams scratching their heads on who to focus on guarding Bibby, Hughes or Anthony.
#2 Knicks - Yao Ming : Knicks believe in fairies and Giants, and they draft the Giant in this draft with the #2 pick by acquiring Yao Ming. With his sheer size, i would expect the giant to tally up 20+ppg and double digits rebounds along with several blocks shots, early in his career.
#3 Bucks - Amare Stoudamire : Amare landing in the #3 spot is a gift made in heaven, getting a franchise player of his caliber at #3 isn't a common thing, this just shows how deep this draft is becoming, the Bucks surely wins out by drafting this phenom.
#4 Lakers (from Sonics) - Caron Butler : Lakers landing #4 would be a stroke of luck, they have 2 option a PF in Boozer or a SF in Butler, we believe it would be the latter as their team could really use a nice starting SF,this would move Kobe to his natural position as SG while Zach mans the PF and Curry at C. Jrich might be moved for a high caliber PG.
#5 Pacers (from Hornets) - Carlos Boozer: Pacers have loads of talent and a definite contender, it would look like they'd be drafting a nice PF with #5 in Boozer, he is the best player available at #5, a strong rebounder, defender with descent inside game. They add depth and quality with this pick.
#6 Kings - Gerald Wallace : The Kings are in total rebuilding mode, by picking Wallace, they add a young, dynamic and atheletic SF as one of their corner-stone. In the real NBA, Wallace exploded his game when he was one of the main options for the Charlotte Bobcats, he could do the same with this team.
#7 Raptors - Nene : The up and coming Raptors have loads of youth and future ahead of them. I could only imagine the devastation of a Arenas/Redd/TMac/AK47/Nene could bring to other teams when these youngsters start to bloom. Raptors have faced a lot of controversies with other GMs in the league with how they manipulate their lineup, but this time I think they are set, only time will tell how their story goes.
#8 Celtics - Boris Diaw : Celtics need a quality SF to build upon and i believe Diaw could be their guy. He is young, talented and full of potential. Scouts compare his game to a Lamar Odom, a young versatile player who is able to play several positions. He'd definately help uplift the Celtics pride.
#9 Nuggets - Tayshaun Prince : Nuggets took the rebuilding direction when they traded Jamison for their 03 pick back in the hope of having a chance to land Lebron. Acquiring Prince at #9 is something i'd take any day of the week, Prince would truly be a defensive foundation for this team.
#10 Clippers (from Magic) - Drew Gooden : If the admiral, David Robinson decides to call it quits, the Clippers front court would falter so they draft a big guy in Gooden who provides a little bit of every thing a big guy is expected of, size, rebounding and some inside game, ideally a PF but may be able to play some C if the need arise.
#11 Jazz (from Cavaliers) - Nenad Krstic : What does drafting Krstic do for the Jazz? They get a project in Krstic while backing up Miller and Potapenko in steriods. When Potapenko realizes he is not supposed to score 20+ppg and 9+rpg, Krstic could be a semi-descent backup plan.
#12 Rockets - Josh Howard : This draft seriously lacked guys who could dribble and pass the ball which the Rockets need thus they get the best player avaiable in Howard, regardless of the position. Rockets did some move to get a semi-descent PG in Knight before the trade deadline since the couldn't see anybody who'd fill their PG need in the draft. Howard adds youth and potential to the young Rockets squad.
#13 Blazers (from TWolves) - Mike Dunleavy : Needing a SF, Blazers select the heralded Dunleavy in Portland. Mike provided descent value for this last lotto pick and solidifies the Blazers frontcount lineup of Dampier and LaFrentz while Dunleavy plays @ #3.
