I know we can't fire or punish everyone at this point and it doesn't make sense to, but if we are going to make exceptions for rappers and comedians we need to understand that they share the same craft as Imus... entertainment. Yes Imus can't say a lot of things the other two do but he needs a little leeway I didn't listen to Imus and don't know anything about his show but can't people change the channel? If you don't like what someone has to say get over it. He has been on the air for over 20 years. Worse things have to have been said on his show so why stop him now?
I really don't care that he got fired but I just don't understand why this gets done now

It's a COMEDY FUCKING SHOW.
Chris Rock says things a million times worse... has even said things about killing white people. So tell me how is this any fucking different?
Please... just because he called a bunch of broads "Nappy Headed Hos" means nothing.

I really don't care that he got fired but I just don't understand why this gets done now Here's a remark he made about the NY Times hiring a black journalist to cover the White House: "[It's nice to] let the cleaning lady cover the White House." He's referred to black hirings as quota hirings. He's also called a writer for the Washington Post a boner-nosed, beanie-wearing The Champ boy. Oh, and he called the "The Champish management" of CBS "money grubbing bastards" I gave my precursor at first that I despise Imus, and this kind of stuff is why. I've never thought he should be allowed on air, and it's good that he finally did himself in. For me, the argument isn't isolated to what he said about the Rutgers team, but even on that alone, he does not deserve to hold his job; there's something contextually inappropriate about white entertainers making racist remarks about blacks, and if you can't appreciate why, you need a history lesson.

So it's ok for black comedians of this day and age to make racist remarks because of slavery? A slavery which they weren't even born to witness, most of who's parents probably didn't even go through it?
Please... Don Imus can say what he wants... he's not lynching anyone, killing anyone... do you guys watch the news? Tell me why it's ok for a black man to say "Kill Whitey" but a "comedian" makes a "racist" remark and it's the end of the world?

All other race's make crued remarks about white people constently. Its no difference, Imus I havent listened to either but I heard on Howard Stern people bringing him up as maybe becoming bigger then Howard which never happened a few years back. In Guess Who Ashton Kutcher said his grandma loved Thandie Newtons Characters the played Nappy little head lol. So those sort of comments have been used in the past.

Chris you are completely wrong. Those comments were unnecessary. No one person should be allowed to say what he said. Furthermore, the Imus situation has given me a headache, especially since its pretty local to me, on my favorite radio station. Although I don't usually listen to him or watch him on t.v. in the morning, so I haven't heard of any of his past negative comments. I'm not surprised that he got fired, you can not say these kind of things, and I wouldn't be surprised if he got fired from WFAN also.

I live in the Tri-State area so it's pretty close to me too... and I'm not saying what he said is "ok" but his job is to be controversial and to say what he wants when he wants. Answer me this... let's say your driving and some asian cuts you off do you not say, if not think, occasionally "Fucking chink" or if a black person cuts you off you say "fucking nigger" or if a white person cuts you off you say "fucking white trash?" I admit to it from time to time... does that make me racist? I would hope not.
I say this because I know it happens alot... people think things but are afraid to say things. America is this free country based on freedom of speech yet no one can get away with saying anything. Now don't get me wrong... I don't think people should be able to say "Let's kill so and so" but a joke like Imus' made on a "Controversial-comedic show" should not be taken as seriously as it has been. I'm not black, and I can't talk about why or why not "nappy headed hos" should be found offensive... but i've asked all my black friends if those words came out of Chapelle's or Chris Rock's mouth if they would find that funny and what did they all say? Yes.
America isn't trying to eliminate racism.. it just keeps creating it. Imus' firing is just making this country all the more racist. I love America... you can't live how you live here in any other country of the world, but when it comes to the overall lifestyle and way people go about things... America comes in dead last to all the countries I've been to.

the thing is that's all true. it's wrong for EVERYONE. but we all know that the only thing that matters unfortunately is the money in this country. it's sad and i am ashamed for it but i would definitely love it if we could at least keep it out of sports as much as possible.
however just because others don't get punished, that doesn't put imus in the right.
the rutgers team works harder than any team in the country, and to come that far and get that remark from a media personality is terrible. that's what is getting under rated in all this now, if imus doesn't get fired then where does that leave women's basketball? why should it be a joke? i dunno, i coulda just not even posted here but i happened to really like that team so it just annoys me when people start saying that this is being blown out of proportion... because it isn't. this needed to be exposed and dealt with, and i'm glad it was.

i'm not saying its not wrong... i'm saying that other people get away with the same shit all the time and you never hear about it if we were to fire everyone who did this exact offense, then most rappers would be off tv. there's definitely a double standard. and i agree with that much. it's all bullshit and everyone should be punished. Either allow it both ways, or punish em both ways. Simple is that.

Imus shouldnt have been fired. I can almost guarantee he will be back on the radio. It is ludacris to fired him, people have said much worse on the radio. Im surprised no one has mentioned anything about rappers in this convo. Don't get me wrong I think what Imus said was wrong but he should't have been fired. What Imus said is like what rappers say on CDs. If it is wrong for Imus to say this and get fired then rappers shouldnt be able to call women bitches and ho's. This whole thing was blown out of porportion once Rey Al Sharpton came into the picture. If Imus was black I could almost guarantee Sharpton wouldnt have said one word. Sharpton is the one that got Imus fired by going on his radio program and also by going to CBS and NBC. You may disagree with me but I firmly believe if it wasnt for Sharpton, Imus would still have his job. I dont want to offend anyone but I live in NYC and I plan on becoming a NYPD officer and I HATE Sharpton so if you think im wrong by saying what im saying then im sorry, that is just how I feel. I dont want anyone to think im racist cause im not.

the only flaw in what you are saying is that those words - bitches, hos - they get cut off! they're not just there for everyone to hear on public radio and such... it's like people just don't notice that here.
if you are going to be a public radio personality(especially nationally i believe?) then you need to have responsibility and consequences for saying things. maybe people do say worse but it doesn't belong on the airwaves for everyone to hear, including little children who are easily influenced.

Having a child grow up on bitches and hos is not going to make him into a criminal convict. Hey America... surprisingly this stuff goes on in almost every other country and nothing is said, because it's *gasp* NORMAL! America needs to start realizing it's not the Music, Entertainment or Video Game industry that's corrupting young kids... it's America itself.

I strongly disagree. I grew up on hip-hop music, on Howard Stern, on "offensive" programs and I think I can say I'm a normal person. When I go to Spain... half the shows and commercials that they have over there wouldn't even dare to be aired on even cable television here in the states. Hell, there are nude commercials left and right. Believe me, Don Imus will not corrupt a childs' mind...
