well anyway if we go by making team mates better as that much of a factor then i would take baron over billups too. i just don't think it's fair to say that's the only quality at this point.Did I say only quality? I definitely didnt mean that. I think it is a very important quality, but not the only quality. I think a PG that doesn't make his teammates better can be very good, but isnt an elite PG IMO. I think Billups is better the Parker because while he may not make players around him better, he is an emotional leader and hes really the Pistons go to scorer. When it counts Chauncey comes up big.
Just as Spence says a lot of us don't watch Baron on a consistent basis, it's extremely clear that Chauncey isn't watched by many of you, either.
If you happened to watch Billups, you'd take notice to the easy shots Rip Hamilton constantly gets when he's out there. Rip is fed the ball in the perfect spot every time he curls around one of his screens. For the short time period when Billups was out, Flip Murray and Lindsay Hunter shared the point guard duties, both below average point guards. Rip Hamilton struggled getting the easy shots he's accustomed to getting, because both of these guys were unable to hit Rip with solid passes. Rip is a fantastic offensive player, but struggles creating his own shot. He needs people feeding him in the perfect spot, exactly what Billups does every night. The same goes for Prince/Sheed. Billups feeds those two in the best possible spots and gets them easy baskets. On top of that, the guy feeds his teammates for the first three quarters every night, and only if needed, will take over in the fourth. He passes up countless open shots in order to get his teammates involved.
While we're on Billups, I truly believe he's the best point guard in the league. I would not take him first, second, or third, etc. in a draft for building my team for the future, but if I had to take a point guard to win this year, there is no question he is my guy. Billups is not the best point guard at individual categories, but instead is top 5 in everything, with the exception of speed. Strength, defense, offense, 3pt shooting, free throw shooting, ball handling, making teammates betters, post game, being clutch. I'd have a hard time finding five point guard better than Billups in almost any category.
While guys like Nash are offensive wizards with the ball, they lack one half of the game (defense) and it's exposed every time I watch Billups take on Nash or a player like Parker, who constantly penetrates and has very little bit of an outside game or passing ability.
Billups may not be the best at one thing, but there's no doubt in my mind (with the exception of Kidd being close) that he's the top all around point guard in the NBA.
